TASUED COMMISSIONS EDTECH CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

    0

In order to accomplish the vision of the founding fathers of the University and sustain the feat of being the premier and preferred University of Education in Nigeria, Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State, in collaboration with Co-Creation Hub (CcHUB), recently commissioned the latest ICT-based incubator innovation, EDTECH Centre of Excellence on the campus of the Institution.

The Centre, which will foster a workable and sustainable Industry – University-based relationship and as well serve as the engine room for information and communication technology, will be dedicated to the application of social capital and technology for economic prosperity.

In his welcome address at the commissioning, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu said he was excited that the dream came to reality during his tenure, despite the fact that it was a long time ambition but “today stands as the beginning of a remarkable achievement in the course of the history of this specialized citadel of learning – the birth of Edtech Centre of Excellence”, he added.

According to the Vice Chancellor, Edtech Centre of Excellence was established to accelerate research and development in the application of technology for teaching, learning and management of education in Africa.

“In accomplishment of this feat, the University is proud to be associated with Co-Creation Hub (CcHUB), the leading technology innovation centre in Nigeria, CcHUB is also Nigeria’s first open living lab and incubation space designed to be a multifunctional Centre where work to catalyze creative social technology is developed”, he stressed.

While delivering his address at the ceremony, the CEO of Co-creation Hub (CcHUB), Mr. Bosun Tijani described the occasion as epoch-making, adding that TASUED is the only University in the country that has enjoyed this innovation.

He further stressed that the collaboration was the most transparent arrangement because it was basically hinged on exchange of ideas, unlike what obtains in a typical Nigerian environment where money would have exchanged hands.

Mr. Tijani, therefore, commended the Management of the University for making the vision of the Institution came to fruition and for adopting such technology at this point in time when the world in now a global village.

“I must reiterate that no University in Nigeria can withstand TASUED simply because of the crop of forward-looking people that make the University. We find it interesting and safe to collaborate with this University because we have similar philosophy in common and with this innovation, the future is assured as far as technology is concerned”, he added.

The Centre shall, among other functions, make significant contributions to research in e-learning and technology application in schools/classrooms; Incubate creative EdTech startups and technology solutions for use in schools; run Masters degree and Ph.D programmes with a strong focus on e-learning and technology use in education and participate in collaborative research projects with leading academic research groups from across the globe.

In attendance were members of the Management team, Deans of Colleges, Directors of Centres, Heads of Departments, Deputy Registrars, Students’ Union leaders as well as one student representative each from all departments in the University.

Demonstration training was later organised for selected students at the occasion.

    Big Show bids TASUEDites Fareware

    0

Abiodun Matthew (Big Show), the 11th Students Union Director of Transportation send his fareware to all Tasuedites who gave him the opportunity to have served them in his capacity.

BigShow is one of the most popular student in TASUED due to his online activities especially dissemination of information and service to humanity.

He just graduated from the premier university of education 2018/19 academic session and he’s currently awaiting his National youth service.

    Big show bids TASUEDites farewell…

“It is often times said that the journey of a thousand miles begins with just a single step. Likewise, my journey as a student and comrade for four years which started around 2015 that looked like its never ending will wind up in matter of hours. Coming in to Tasued as a fresh student, I was only determined to do my best to the students populace and myself.

Today, I officially want to appreciate every Tasuedite (alumni or student) who shaped Big Show into what he is today. Your support, advice and criticism built me to who you see today. Without you, there is no Big Show. The list is endless so I would beg your apology for not mentioning any name.

I write this emotional piece thinking of how well everyone of you accepted and treated me, these memories are ones I will cherish for the entirety of my life. Starting from me just contesting as a senator to represent my constituency to getting elected as the Students’ Union Director of Transports, I have received immense love I cannot even pay back. You all are the real Big Show.

Today, Friday 11th of October 2019, I will be dropping everything that has to do with active unionism on campus as well as provision of campus information. I am no longer a student and the time has come to look forward to making significant progress in my desired career. Maybe I should say I am going into retirement. The days of “ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION with the tag “I AM SEN. BIG SHOW” will not be seen as often as you have seen before now because the time to bid goodbye has arrived. I will miss every single individual for giving me a platform to give my best.

Dear Tasuedites, be rest assured you are in good hands. Information will come in due time from Adewuyi Taiwo Elijah (Elected P.R.O) and his team and all that is needed are the same support, advice and constructive criticism given to me.

We have met to part. I part now and we will definitely meet in the nearest future in a better place.

Yewa First Son Says Thank You.

Whose regime are we really in: Drizzy or Las?

    0

It is 50 days now since the Students’ Union of the Tai Solar in University of Eduction conducted her 12th election into the Union body (the election which was held on the 15th of August, 2019) but up till now, the winners have not been sworn into that respective offices where they are to carry out their duties. The reason for this is yet to be known!

Looking back into past accounts, the swearing in of officers has not taken so long a period of time. Itr has always been that, either they are sworn in few weeks after the election or immediately the new session (which they are to work with) begins. But it has been a different turnout this year.

Why have they not been sworn in is the question that beclouds the minds of TASUEDITES. TASUEDITES seek to know her ‘voices at the top’, the middle men between the students and the school management’.

It quite saddens that those who should have been paraded as President, Vice president, General secretary, Director of Transport, Social among other posts still carry about the beautiful but almost fading flag of ‘Elect’.

These people should have begun their regime immediately the session started, but news on that ids yet to circulate. At least, a child is entitled to have a name after 7 days of birth – on the 8 day to be precise. On the other note, these ‘children’ haven been given their appropriate names.

Is it until the session runs out that they would be sworn in? Or, has it been forgotten that this semester is almost getting the middle?

TASUEDITES, please air your view on this.

Taste My Cake: The Fastest-Growing cake outlet in Ogun State

    0

Taste My Cake (TMC) – established on the 14th day of February 2018 – is one of the fastest-growing cake outlets in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state. It specializes in making cakes for different occasions – birthdays, weddings, anniversaries among others – at prices best affordable to even common man on the street.

Taking you on a journey to Taste My Cake, TMC as you meet the ‘behind the scene’ of the firm – Mr Oduyemi Fiyinfoluwa – is the task we have set to accomplish this week.

Tell Us Briefly About You and How You Came About The Idea Of TMC.

Oduyemi Fiyinfoluwa is the name. The last out of four children. I graduated from the University of Ibadan with a degree in Educational Management and Economics in 2015. Presently, I work for Lafarge cement running it alongside my work here at TMC. Basically, what brought about Taste My Cake was that since my childhood days I had always wanted to work on my own.

I had always had the inspiration not to work under anybody and while I was in my service year, I had one or two reasons to get cakes from Cakes and Cream and that grew my passion for baking – cake precisely. With this, I felt I was going to start my own business and Taste My Cake was born.

And Ijagun was the Best Location to Situate Your Outlet?

Very particularly. I saw the need to bring this idea back home in order to develop the community. I grew up in this community and rather than build or develop someone else’s land, I would do mine first. Here in Ijebu Ode, you barely see an outlet whose main domain is in the area of cake making.

Many of them see it as one of the services they should render but TMC has decided to go away from that direction and to ensure there’s an outlet that makes just cakes in this community.

Your Experience in Ijagun So Far.

Truly, this is a school environment where the major needs of students would be things relating to academics. But aside that, our experience in Ijagun so far has really been in line with what we initially envisioned. Most times, 80℅ of our delivery goes out of this community. We have got to deliver cakes in Lagos, Oyo and Ondo particularly.

Solving the Problem of Far Distance.

To us, distance has not really been a barrier. When we started TMC, it was not for the reason of having to have a one-on-one discussion with our customers at all times. Technology is evolving at the speed of light and we are utilizing these trends. This is the reason why we have thought it needful to develop our social media platform which would enable us to work more from our online cake shop. Customers don’t always have to come down to Ijagun at all time to place their order: social media is there for us.

    Helping Hands in TMC.

Though TMC started with only me in 2018. But within the space of a year, TMC has 3 members of the delivery team, 2 full-time bakers and 3 interns. Due to the nature of other works I do, most of these people get to do the work in my absence and for any work that demands me being around, I always sort out time to be here.

    Walk us Through Your Services.

TMC has made over 400 cakes in the last one year of establishment. 80% of which has been delivered outside Ijagun as I have said earlier. We make new cakes virtually on a weekly basis. Aside from that, we offer training services to people who are interested in the art of cake baking and covering

    The Challenges and Driving Force.

The basic challenge I had starting was people having to believe in it, as with all new ideas. Even my strongest supporter didn’t believe in me. They were like, “are you sure people still buy cakes?”

Additionally, finance was another challenge. Support wasn’t forthcoming so I had to use from the little I was earning to start up something. TMC started in a small kitchen year back. However, the major zeal has always been that which I long had, ‘Being a boss of my own’. I knew what I wanted and I had to move towards achieving it.

    In The Next 2 Years…,

I see TMC taking over Ogun state. I see us taking over Google in the state too. So when anyone needs to visit a cake outlet in the state, TMC is what pops up first on the internet. Also, TMC would have had branches in another part of Ogun state – Ijebu Ode, Sagamu, Abeokuta – and outside the state.

    Flying Advises the Youth.

Everyone knows good from the bad. Therefore whatever you’re doing, make sure it is the good thing so in years to come when people ask you about how you made it, you’ll surely have a legit story to tell. I know of people who engage in the ‘Make It Quick’ act. I, also, don’t preach against it for all I know is that time will tell whether you build your foundation on honesty or on lies.

Also, no matter what you do in life, there will always be ups and downs. This is the certainty about life. But note when you are into any business, you are now living two lives: your business life and your private life. In that, whatever affects your business life should not be brought into your private life and vice versa.

To the youth who would want to start any business, I would say, don’t wait until later hours before you start. Start writing that wonderful books now! Start recording those amazing songs! It is wrong today we are the future of tomorrow, our future starts today. I made a mistake of waiting some years before coming up with this. If I had known, I would have started this a long time ago. However, it’s still good I did…
