…As members embark on facility tour of the University
The newly inaugurated Governing Council of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State has thrown its weight behind the Institution in area of staff welfare, infrastructural development and to ensure that the University is strategically placed on the world map.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun made this submission during a stakeholders’ meeting on the campus of the University, noting that members would deliver on its mandate and meet the high expectations of various stakeholders that form the University.
Prof. Balogun, alongside other members of the Governing Council, during an inaugural meeting with various interest groups gave his commitment to the task ahead.
He added that “I pledge that courage, accountability, credibility, discipline, equity, fairness, justice and unparalleled sacrifice in serving which are indisputable noble creeds of the late sage, Dr. Tai Solarin, shall be our article of faith in this assignment. I hope we will be judged during and after our tenure. This Council is statutorily entrusted with the governance of Tai Solarin University of Education to ensure that it delivers on its mandate and meet the high expectations of its stakeholders. I wish to assure you that under my leadership, activities of this Council will be well grounded in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and its Laws, Ogun State Laws, Tai Solarin University of Education Law and appropriate due process rules and regulations aimed at credible supritendence over the policy, property and finance of the University”.
The new helmsman at the Council, therefore, sought for collective cooperation from various stakeholders by being optimistic that “with members’ collective resolve, determination and strongwill to succeed, support from government at all levels, parents, alumni association and other stakeholders, articulation and exploration of new internally generated revenue initiatives by the Management and Council, we shall overcome the challenges and as well place the University to the desired national and global status”, he added.
Prof. Balogun, however, called for maximum cooperation from staff, students and other stakeholders in order to synergise with the Council’s efforts at sustaining the realisation of the University’s overall objective.
In his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu expressed optimism that the University looks forward to the Council that will place the University on a global map, with an assurance that the Management, in collaboration with both staff and students, will extend hands of fellowship to the new Council.
“It is our expectation that this Council will further envision a creative academic programme development with adequate physical and human resources broaden our growth and development into a world-class institution towards achieving our dream of making TASUED a centre of excellence as a specialised institution meeting the global needs of the nation’s educational system”, he enthused.
The Vice Chancellor further noted that one of the selling points of the University, aside from the entrepreneurial and vocational study, is the stable academic calendar, adding that the University is revered by a cross section of the media as the most peaceful institution in the country.
The Council members, thereafter, embarked on facility tour of the University campus commencing from the Igbeba campus of the University where members were hosted to cultural display by pupils of TASCE Staff School and a guard of honour mounted by the Students of TASUED Secondary School (TASUESS).
They were particularly thrilled by the intelligent prowess of the Students with the construction of a solar-powered panels currently being used in the school.
In the same vein, the trail moved to the Ososa Campus of the University where members commended the philanthropic gesture of the donor, Alhaji Adebola Adegunwa with a promise that the facility will be well utilised.
Earlier, during the inaugural meeting of the Council, members took time to meet with various staff Unions: Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU); Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU); Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) as well as the leadership of the Students’ Union.
