The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu has advocated for the development of Mathematics among students just as he commended members of the Ogun State Chapter of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN) for demistifying the study of mathematics in Nigerian schools, thereby, “winning souls” of students to the subject.
He made this assertion at the 4th Annual State Conference of the Association held on the Campus of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun which had as its theme “Mathematics: The Accurate Solution to National Menace”.
Prof. Arigbabu commended the organisers for their determination to put the conference together. “I commend this group of people for being hardworking, focused and dogged, as well as their perseverance in championing the study of mathematics”, he added.
The Vice Chancellor further noted that the country could only achieve its desired goals by joining the league of developed countries in order to give the study of mathematics its pride of place.
He, however, called on students not to run away from the subject, as mathematics is easy to pass.
In his response at the occasion, the Ogun State Chairman, Mathematical Association of Nigeria, Mr. Joseph Abidemi Bankole commended TASUED Management for giving MAN the opportunity to host this year’s conference in the University.
Others invited guests at the conference were the President of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria, Prof. A.R.T Solarin; Provost, D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Prof. Olufemi Fatade as well as students from invited schools in Ogun State.
