Around 5:30 pm today, 28th June 2019, the ban on electioneering process of the Tai Solarin University of Education Students Union body for the next academic session 2019/2020 was officially lifted by the Students House of Senate (SHS) Led by Distinguish Sen. Faraye Abiodun.
The Students House of Senate officially notified the general student of the University that it has been officially inaugurated the ITEC to conduct elections into various office of the Union.
He furthermore said that “by the independent power conferred on the Electoral Commission, are hereby informed that the ban on electioneering process into the Student Union offices has been lifted”.
The press conference which was held alongside the presence of other members of ESEC and pressmen was backed up with documents that affirms the lifting of the ban and the electoral commission timetable.
The Senate President on behalf of the Emancipation 2018/2019 stated that aspirants can now kick-start their campaigns, He sternly warned the aspirants to be mindful of the electoral rules and regulations.
He said, “it should be borne in mind that adherence to the electoral laws in the Union Constitution as well as the rules and regulations laid down by the Commission is very important and as such any aspirant who defaults any aspect of the laws or regulations shall be disqualified”.
Further explains in his speech that “We are the leaders of tomorrow and as such, the opportunity for leadership development should not be unrestricted.”
He directed the ITEC to immediately commence arrangements for the election of the students’ union executives to avoid any form of postponement.
He also urged the University management and the students to guard against anything capable of bringing unrest to the University and support a free and fair of this election.
