During a Senate meeting held on July 31, 2024, the university took decisive action against student misconduct, sanctioning numerous students for various offences.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Office on Tuesday, Ojo Michael, a 200-level Computer Science student, was rusticated for the entire 2023/2024 academic session. Michael was found guilty of forging his Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) to qualify for the Student Union elections.

Additionally, 17 students were rusticated for examination malpractice, five for making threats to life, and one for fraudulent activities. The statement highlighted that these penalties were recommended following thorough investigations by the university’s Examination Malpractice and Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

In a broader crackdown on misconduct, 47 students were suspended indefinitely for various offenses, including impersonation, for which ten students were also punished.

The university’s Senate emphasized that the sanctioned students are required to remain off-campus to prevent potential confrontations with university security personnel. The management reiterated its commitment to maintaining academic integrity and discipline, warning that any student found guilty of misconduct would face severe consequences according to the institution’s regulations.

The statement read in part: “The Senate, at its Statutory meeting of 31st July 2024, has approved that Ojo Michael, a 200-level student in the Computer Science Department, be rusticated for the 2023/2024 Academic session for forgery of CGPA to contest Student Union Elections. 17 other students got rusticated for examination malpractice, five for threats to life, and one for a fraudulent act. 47 students were found guilty of misconduct and were thus given indefinite suspension, with another ten for impersonation.”

The university’s administration remains resolute in upholding its standards and ensuring a disciplined academic environment.
