In a historic ceremony held today, the 17th Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) was officially inaugurated. The event marked the beginning of a new administration, led by Abidakun Tomide Micheal, popularly known as Tommygrin, who emerged victorious in the recent elections with a resounding 64.63% of the votes.
The inauguration ceremony, attended by students, staff, and dignitaries, signified a smooth transition of leadership. Outgoing SUG officials officially handed over the mantle of leadership, reflecting on their administration’s achievements and expressing confidence in the incoming team’s ability to take the union to greater heights.
Delivering his inaugural speech, President Abidakun expressed gratitude to God, his supporters, and the TASUED community for their trust and confidence. He also commended the Independent TASUEDSU Electoral Committee, led by Dr. Kunle Balogun, for conducting a free and fair election that upheld democratic principles.
“Today marks the beginning of a great dispensation for TASUEDSU. This moment offers a lasting imprint of solutions for our union,” Abidakun remarked.
The president outlined his administration’s key priorities, focusing on dialogue, negotiation, and inclusivity. He assured students of his commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises while fostering collaboration with the university management and labor unions, including ASUU, SSANU, and NASU.
Highlighting the importance of unity, Abidakun called for collaboration among all TASUEDites and extended a hand of friendship to his fellow contenders, Sen. Emmanuel Osanwuta and Sen. Emmanuel Adeojo, affirming that their collective efforts would drive progress.
“We are all winners in this project, and together, we can achieve so much more,” he stated.
President Abidakun also acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor, Comr. Ajala Emmanuel, and charged the new executives to prioritize the welfare of students while maintaining accountability and transparency.
“Our administration will prioritize dialogue and negotiation. We are readily available for discussions as far as the interest of TASUEDites is concerned,” he pledged.
The inauguration ceremony also served as a platform for the new administration to reaffirm its commitment to raising the standard of the union and ensuring that the voice of every student is heard.
