The Vice-Chancellor, Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun-Ijebu, Ogun State, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has said that a total of 23 First Class graduands and 2,740 others have graduated from the institution.

The VC stated this on Monday at a briefing held to announce the 10th Convocation Ceremony of the institution.

Arigbabu also disclosed that the 2,763 graduates included 79 postgraduate diploma and 177 masters graduates. “We would have 648 graduates from the College of Social and Management Sciences, 425 from the College of Humanities and 367 from the College of Specialised Education. Others include 514 from the College of Science and Information and Technology, as well as 513 graduates from the College of Vocational Technology Education.”

Arigbabu also said that as part of activities marking the convocation, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof.Ishaq Oloyede, had been invited to deliver the convocation lecture on From whom much is expected, enough should be given: a case for teachers in Nigeria.

He said, “The advantages of specialisation is that most of the problems in Nigeria will be solved if we get education right. Of the 166 universities in Nigeria, about half of them don’t have faculties of education, including private universities. The Federal Government should have established specialised universities of education. We should have at least one in each of the six geopolitical zones in the country.”

Lauding the effort of the school’s staff in producing well-rounded teachers, Arigbabu added, “Our products are testimonies of the structure of our programmes. They are knowledgeable in pedagogy. TASUED is fulfilling the mandate for which it was set up. They all finished with a certification in vocational studies. This will help them create jobs for themselves and supplement the teaching jobs they may get.”

Photo: TASUED Students kills Snake causing Havoc in the Hostel for Dinner

    0

Kills Snake – In an unexpected turn of events, students of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) recently breathed a sigh of relief as a persistent snake that had been terrorizing them in their hostel was finally killed. The snake, which had reportedly been slithering around the premises for some time, even going as far as to swallow foodstuff, had caused fear and unrest among the students.

Showunmi Oluwatobiloba John, a student at the university, shared the news on Facebook, expressing his relief and gratitude to those who helped eliminate the threat. In his post, he wrote, “Finally the Snake that has been swallowing our foodstuff and disturbing us in our compound has been killed by the Great Hunter.”

For weeks, the students had lived in fear, unsure when or where the snake would appear next. The hostel residents had been dealing with fear and frustration as the reptile became a constant menace. The situation was especially unsettling because the snake had been sneaking into the hostel and consuming food, making it difficult for the students to feel safe.

The daring capture and eventual death of the snake brought a wave of relief, and the “Great Hunter” who killed the snake has since been praised for his bravery.

This incident highlights the challenges some students face in their hostels, especially in areas where nature and urban living intersect. It’s a reminder that safety and proper living conditions in university accommodations are crucial for student well-being.

We hope the students can now focus on their studies without the lurking fear of unexpected visitors in the form of wild animals!

The AMAZON!: The third TASUED VC, Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade

    0

TASUED VC – On 14th November 1958, a little baby joined the fold of womenfolk in Nigeria, crying, smiling, sucking and doing all the regular things that female babies do.

But little did the world know that a star was born! No, she would not grow to become a Jennifer Lopez or a Jackie Kennedy/Onassis; she was not cut out to thrive on the make-believe that acting evokes. She was not even birthed in an environment famous for producing stars, but like with the birth of Jesus Christ in lowly Bethlehem, little Oluyemisi Oluremi Obilade (Nee Ajao) was born in the sleepy little town of Ile Ogbo in Osun state.

After a traumatic childhood due to an inclement traditional conception of the position, potentials and role of the girl-child, she attended Mayflower School, Ikenne in Ogun State, perhaps a divine and early rehearsal for the future schedule with destiny. This move was apparently facilitated by the occupation of her father (Baba Agric) as a teacher in the school, but it proved to be fortuitous engender of her commitment to agriculture as the vocation, while the tutelage of a business-inclined grandmother honed her entrepreneurial inclination. She later proceeds to the then the University of Ile (now known as Obafemi Awolowo University) where she bagged the Bachelor of Education Degree (History/English) in 1980, the Master of Arts Degree in Adult Education (1984) and Ph.D in Adult Education in 1992.

As part of tutelage for future outstanding leadership assignments, she obtained the 2006 Executive Business Education Certificates of both the Harvard University Business School (USA) and the Cambridge University Judge Business School (UK).

In 2005/2006, she was awarded the International Women’s Federal (IWF) Leadership Foundation Fellowship as well as the HERS-SA Grant Fellowship. In 2008, she was awarded a Fellowship grant of the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF) which gave her the opportunity to complete a certificate course in Resource Mobilization at the Ghana Institute for Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
