Panic as Hackers Reportedly Seize GTBank Website in Massive Phishing Operation

    0

There is growing concern among customers of Nigeria’s banking giant, GTBank, after reports emerged that suspected cybercriminals have compromised the bank’s domain address in a massive phishing operation. According to a report by Peoples Gazette, attempts to log on to the bank’s official website, www.gtbank.com, returned error messages as of 10:30 PM on Wednesday.

The incident occurred just a day after the domain name was renewed for another five years, from August 13, 2024, through March 21, 2029, according to several online platforms that analyze domain information. Despite the ongoing situation, no group of hackers has claimed responsibility for the attack, which reportedly began on August 14. A GTBank spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comments.

It appears that the hackers have created an alternative HTTP layer of the website in a sophisticated phishing scheme aimed at stealing customers’ data. A cybersecurity expert with experience in the Nigerian banking industry suggested that the bank’s login details might have been compromised, rather than the domain address itself being stolen for resale at a higher value.

GTBank customers have taken to social media platform X to express their frustration, as many have been unable to access the website to conduct transactions. Bank representatives on X have urged customers to be patient and directed them to alternative channels for assistance.

Despite the website issues, the bank’s mobile applications on Android and iOS platforms remain operational, allowing customers to continue banking activities through these channels.

GTBank, one of Nigeria’s largest financial institutions, serves millions of customers across Nigeria and other African countries. The current situation has raised significant concerns about cybersecurity and the safety of customer data within the Nigerian banking sector.

Why I Adopted Elephant As A Member Of My Family – Iziak Salako

    0

The Minister of State for Environment Dr. Iziak Salako, has said he now has an elephant as a member of his family as part of his efforts to protect the remaining 300-400 elephants in Nigeria.

Iziak Salako who spoke during the launch of the Nigeria Elephant Action Plan (NEAP) in Abuja on Tuesday, said he took the decision to adopt an orphaned elephant as his contribution to the conservation of the critically endangered species.

He said NEAP will bolster efforts to protect the country’s dwindling elephant population and preserve biodiversity.

He added, “Elephants are integral to our community and heritage,” he noted. “They support flora and fauna growth and are vital for biodiversity.” [Read more: Sex Addict: Signs You’re Turning Into One & What to Do About It]

Nigeria’s elephant population has faced severe challenges with the country losing 99 percent of its elephants to habitat loss, poaching and human-wildlife conflicts.

The minister stressed that working in partnership with the Elephant Protection Initiative Foundation and Wildlife Conservation Society, the Nigerian government intends to use the newly launched NEAP to provide a strategic framework for elephant conservation.

Andrew Dunn, WCS Nigeria Country Director, who coordinated the writing of the comprehensive plan, said, “Saving Nigeria’s last elephants will require more than just funds; it will require a significant change in attitude at all levels and a paradigm shift by federal and state governments towards a realisation that human wellbeing and global health are inextricably linked to biodiversity loss and climate change.”

John Scanlon AO, the CEO of EPIF, which supported the process, said: “The situation of Nigeria’s elephants is desperate but not hopeless. This plan offers us a last chance to conserve these magnificent animals.”

Key components of the plan include enhanced law enforcement, anti-poaching measures, and the use of modern technology for monitoring and intelligence sharing. The plan also emphasizes community engagement, aiming to create a harmonious coexistence between humans and elephants.

The NEAP is a 10-year strategic plan (2024-2034) developed to ensure the long-term survival of elephants in Nigeria.

The deal is expected to facilitate high-level advocacy and strategic engagement with key stakeholders in Washington D.C., including lawmakers, policymakers, and influential think tanks to advance agitation for the independent state of Biafra.

According to a Premium Times report, the Finland-based agitator applied in June 2024 to engage the services of MGS, owned by a former US lawmaker, James Moran. The letter of agreement was signed by Mr Moran himself for the lobbying firm on June 10, 2024, while Mr Ekpa signed on behalf of the BRGIE on June 12, 2024.

According to the contract deal, BRGIE will pay MGS a monthly fee of $10,000 (about N15.8 million) for services provided. The document shows that the contract commenced on 15 June 2024 and would be concluded on 14 June 2025. Monthly fees would be billed in advance on the first day of each month and due on or before the 15th day.

“MGS will support Biafra’s fundamental goal to encourage the United States government to support Biafran independence and to recognise Biafra as the only entity which represents Biafra,” part of the agreement reads.

“MGS will promote the narrative to US governmental and non-governmental stakeholders that Biafra, once an established, independent state, with Biafra’s stewardship, will be a close ally of the United States, as well as a bulwark against Islamic terrorism in the region.

“MGS will also educate US and non-US stakeholders on issues of concerns pertaining to the Government of Nigeria, including, but not limited to human rights abuses, religious freedom issues, including persecution of Nigeria’s Christians, increasing Islamic fundamentalism within the Nigerian government, the Nigerian government’s alignment with US adversaries, and broader security concerns, among other topics,” the agreement further added
It said the US government would be encouraged to engage BRGIE directly and through advocacy by the US Congress and others, including faith-based and human rights organisations and think tanks.

Burna Boy’s Rise to Fame: A Testament to the Support of Mama Burna

    0

In the world of music, we often see the glittering success of artists without fully understanding the journey that brought them there. Recently, Ronami Ogulu, Burna Boy’s sister, pulled back the curtain on the incredible behind-the-scenes efforts of their mother, Mrs. Bose Ogulu, which played a crucial role in shaping Burna Boy’s career.

When Burna Boy was just starting out, his performances often took him to places like Warri, where the promoters’ offers were typically modest—around 100k naira. For an artist trying to make a name, these early gigs were important but hardly lucrative. Mrs. Ogulu, however, understood the value of her son’s work and the realities of his situation. She knew that a 100k fee was not reflective of the effort and travel involved, especially for an artist with the potential to make it big. [Read More: Bobrisky: “I Still Remain the Queen of This Game”]

To ensure that Burna Boy was compensated fairly, Mrs. Ogulu would negotiate with promoters, telling them that the agreed payment was 200k naira. She would then cover the extra 100k from her own salary as a teacher, making up the difference herself. This financial adjustment was more than just a matter of money—it was a gesture of belief and support that spoke volumes about her commitment to her son’s career. [Read More: Burna Boy’s Global Domination: A Journey Through His Electrifying Performances]

But the support didn’t stop there. Burna Boy’s father also played a vital role, taking on the responsibility of driving him to and from these early gigs. His hands-on involvement ensured that Burna Boy could focus on his performances without the added stress of logistics.

What’s truly remarkable about these revelations is the selflessness and dedication of Mama Burna. Throughout this period, Burna Boy remained unaware of the sacrifices his parents were making behind the scenes. This type of support is often unsung but essential, highlighting how the journey to success is not just about talent and hard work but also about the unwavering support from family. [Read More Movies: Dune Part Two]

Ronami Ogulu’s insights provide a powerful reminder of the many unseen forces that contribute to an artist’s success. The sacrifices made by Mama Burna and the Ogulu family underscore the critical role of a strong support system in navigating the challenging early stages of a music career. It’s a testament to the idea that behind every successful artist is a team of supporters who help pave the way, often with quiet determination and profound love.
