Moradeyo Ifedayo, a concerned alumnus of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), has taken to the internet to rally support against the recent decision by the TASUED Alumni Association to increase the alumni fee from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000. This fourfold increase has sparked outrage among the alumni community, many of whom are already struggling with financial pressures.

Alumni Fee Hike Sparks Backlash
In a statement expressing the collective frustration of many TASUED graduates, Ifedayo highlighted the difficult times that alumni are facing, pointing out that the fee hike adds unnecessary financial strain. Instead of facilitating smoother transitions for graduates through initiatives like networking opportunities and job placement programs, the Alumni Association is perceived as adding to the burdens of its members.

The decision to increase fees without clear justification has led to demands for greater transparency and accountability. In response, Ifedayo has outlined three key demands from the alumni community:

Submission of a Financial Audit Report: The Alumni President is urged to provide a comprehensive audit report of the association’s financial activities over the past five years. Alumni have given a 72-hour deadline for the submission of this report. Failure to comply will result in a formal complaint to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of Nigeria, to investigate the financial dealings of the TASUED Alumni Association.

Transparency of the Alumni Association’s Constitution: The executives of the Alumni Association are required to make the association’s constitution available to all alumni within 72 hours. Alumni stress that transparency is crucial in an institution that aims to produce future leaders.

A Call to Action
Ifedayo’s petition calls on TASUED alumni to unite in holding the Alumni Association accountable. By signing the petition, alumni can collectively demand that the association operates with the integrity and transparency expected of an institution committed to nurturing leaders and trailblazers. The petition emphasizes the importance of ensuring that the TASUED Alumni Association fulfills its duty to support its members and uphold the values of their alma mater.

Ifedayo’s initiative marks a significant step in advocating for the rights and interests of TASUED alumni. As the petition gains traction, it remains to be seen how the TASUED Alumni Association will respond to these demands for change.
